CURRENT FORM
- FC Dallas is coming off a tough loss against the Colorado Rapids on the road. They are currently sitting just above the playoff line, and if they win they should be able to make it into the playoff picture. Sporting Kansas City is eliminated from playoff contention and is coming off a loss to the Portland Timbers in their last home match.
SKC MISSING KEY NAMES
- Sporting Kansas City will be missing two key names on their roster after a couple of red cards in the game against Portland. Midfielder Ilie Sanchez will be unavailable after receiving a red card after denying a goal scoring opportunity. Sanchez has started 27 games this season, appearing in 32 while recording two goals and five assists. Midfielder Roger Espinoza is also unable to play this weekend due to a red card for violent conduct during the game against Portland. This is Espinoza’s third red card this season, but has started 15 of the 16 games he has participated in.
EFFICIENCY IS KEY
- FC Dallas has found success when being efficient with the ball and scoring first in matches. They have seen a higher success when being able to limit the opponents possession on their half of the field. Against Colorado head coach Luchi Gonzalez noted that efficiency is a key concept that the team focuses on in order to build and develop.
WE CONTROL OUR DESTINY
- The game on Sunday has major playoff implications for FC Dallas. FC Dallas is one of the only teams in the MLS that controls our own destiny in terms of playoff contention. If we win on Sunday, we are in the playoffs whereas if we lose there is potential for San Jose or Colorado to pass us and kick us out of the picture. CONTAIN FELIPE GUTIERREZ
- In Sporting Kansas City's final home game of the season last week, they presented their 2019 Sporting Club Awards. In addition to leading the team in scoring Sporting Kansas City's striker Felipe Gutierrez was named the most valuable player from teammates and fans. Gutierrez has scored 12 goals this year, but hasn't found the net in the past three games giving him motivation to finish the season with at least one more goal. FC Dallas' defense will need to contain the striker in their half of the field and limit opportunities for scoring as Kansas City will be wanting to end their season with a win.
