Story Lines
Win Streak: For the first time since last July, FC Dallas is on a win streak (albeit a short one). Head coach Eric Quill's team recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this campaign, defeating Real Salt Lake on the road 1-0 before overcoming a deficit to topple Sporting Kansas City 2-1 in Frisco on Saturday. With Quill's first home win under their belt, the feel-good factor is back and Dallas will try to carry that momentum into Atlanta, a city FCD has visited sparingly since United joined the league in 2017. It'll be the club's first trip to the colossal Mercedes-Benz Stadium since 2020 and a chance to secure just its second win their all time.
N2: Saturday's win over Sporting Kansas City saw the season debut of Homegrown defender Nolan Norris. The 20-year-old Fort Worth native signed with the club back in 2022 but had made just four starts prior to the game. Part of that was down to some positional uncertainty around the American youth international. Norris grew up playing left back in the FCD Academy but was projected to play in central defense or midfield at the pro level by the previous coaching staff. Having never really nailed down a permanent position, Norris' opportunities were few and far between. That seems to have changed now. Quill is confident Norris has the attributes to remain a left back at the MLS level and he proved his head coach right with a promising display against Kansas City. Now that first-choice left back Marco Farfan is set to miss two months having undergone fasciotomy surgery, Norris has an opportunity to make the position his own.
ATL: Atlanta has had an up-and-down start to life under new head coach Ronny Deila. They began the season with a 3-2 win over Montreal but followed it up with a four-game winless run (2 wins and 2 ties). They may have righted the ship last time out, though, defeating NYCFC in a wild 4-3 victory at Mercedes-Benz. Deila's team is uber talented on the attacking side with the likes of Emmanuel Latte Lath (who leads MLS with 5 goals already), Miguel Almirón, Alexey Miranchuk and Saba Lobjanidze leading the line. Defensively, however, Atlanta has been less impressive having conceded 11 goals through six games, tied for fifth-most in MLS. Considering Dallas has also been more dangerous on the attacking side of things, Saturday's game has the potential to be a good-old-fashioned goal fest.
