STORY LINES

Something to Build On
FC Dallas returns home to Toyota Stadium after earning a hard-fought 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake last Saturday. The win was Dallas' first since May 28 and propelled the team back to fifth place in the West. It was a timely victory, too, as FCD's next three opponents are all fellow Western Conference teams in the heat of the playoff hunt. Nico Estévez and co. can use last weekend's win as a platform to build momentum as Dallas heads into a crucial stretch of games.

Six Pointer
Saturday's game can be viewed as a six-pointer in terms of the playoff race. FC Dallas sits in fifth place in the West on 32 points, just two ahead of the Galaxy who hold onto seventh place—the final playoff spot. Essentially all but two of the West's playoff places are up for grabs: a measly five points separate 3rd from 8th place. Not only will the winner of Saturday's game earn three more points, the loser will lose ground on the teams around them. Dallas' next three opponents (LA, Seattle and Portland) are on the cusp of the playoff spots which makes this run of games among the most important of the season.

Out of the Blocks
FC Dallas had the perfect start the last time these two teams faced off on May 14 in Los Angeles. Jesús Ferreira and Paul Arriola exploited the Galaxy's high backline and the dynamic duo put Dallas 3-0 up within the first 23 minutes. LA was able to stem the flow in the second half and pulled one back through Douglas Costa just after the hour mark but the damage was done. It's unlikely that LA plays a similar defensive style this time around but Arriola and Ferreira will be looking for a repeat performance this Saturday at Toyota Stadium.
