STORY LINES
First Win
Dallas returns home in search of its first win of the season. But it won't come easy. Nashville (who moved into the Western Conference this season) reached the Eastern Conference Finals last year and have started strongly once again, registering a win and a draw to open their 2022 campaign. With a draw and loss from its two opening games, FCD would relish three points on Saturday to maintain the positive momentum from an exciting offseason.
- Paul Arriola: "I think this week, the most important thing to focus on was the three points. We're at home, we talk about having the right mentality at home, making this place a place where teams don't want to come play. For us, the most important thing is to do everything we can do try and win."
Chance Conversion
FC Dallas has one goal over its first two games but it's not for a lack of trying. Dallas out-shot their opponents in both games (13 shots to 8 against Toronto FC and 12 to 10 against New England) but has only capitalized once so far. The volume of chances created is promising but Dallas needs to start making it count to punish teams in front of goal. Newcomer Paul Arriola has been pulling the strings in Dallas' attack, registering an assist on his debut and four chances created last time out. It's been a strong start for the USMNT winger but but still sees room for improvement in the final third.
- Paul Arriola: "Offensively I think we're just missing a little more execution, precision in the final pass. I think at the end of the day, that's what it comes down to. That's why offensive players get paid the big bucks to be able to do that. For everyone up front, I think the important thing is to stay calm and find the final pass."
Velasco Debut?
Club record signing Alan Velasco could be in line to make his FCD and MLS debut this Saturday. The 19-year-old Argentine arrived in Dallas the day after the club's home opener on Feb. 26. Although he joined team training last week, head coach Nico Estévez felt the winger would benefit from a longer adaptation period and didn't travel for the club's first away match against the Revolution. Now, with two weeks of training under his belt, Velasco seems ready to make his first appearances in FCD colors.
- Nico Estévez: “I think Alan is progressing very well. I think he needed that week to stay here and work. During this week, you can see how he has a different approach to the trainings, his connections with his teammates, his fitness, everything looks much different. He will be able to participate for sure on the weekend.”
