STORY LINES

Road Trip

FC Dallas embarks on its first road trip of the season to take on reigning Supporters' Shield winners New England Revolution this Saturday. Bruce Arena's Revolution set an MLS regular season record for points over the 2021 campaign, finishing with a 22-5-7 record and 73 points. As far as first away games go, Dallas and new coach Nico Estévez have a baptism of fire facing the Revolution at Gillette Stadium, a venue where Arena's men only lost twice all last season. Still, FCD can point to its nine-game unbeaten streak against New England, having earned an 8-0-1 record against the Revs since 2011.

  • Nico Estévez: "New England is a great team and had a great season last year, getting the MLS record for points. Bruce Arena likes to be very strong at home because you need to if you want to make the playoffs. We expect a very hard game. It's a great opportunity for us to see where we're at and what it takes to win away and get points on the road."

Homegrown Midfield

Coach Estévez fielded an all-Homegrown midfield for FCD's season-opening 1-1 draw against Toronto FC last Saturday. Dallas Academy products Edwin Cerrillo, Brandon Servania and Paxton Pomykal patrolled the center of the park for the majority of the game and Pomykal made his mark with a hockey assist for Jáder Obrian's opening goal. Cerrillo played in front of FCD's backline and recorded a game-high 94% passing accuracy, including an even more impressive 92% accuracy in the opposition's half. Although he took a hard hit to the head in the first half, Servania recovered and put in an admirable performance with 35 passes, two shots and a team-high two crosses.

  • Paxton Pomykal on the Homegrown midfield: "It's fun, it's real fun. We have Jesús at the 9 so it's like a little Homegrown diamond that we make. It's really cool. I played a lot of games with Brandon and Jesús in the Academy, so the connection is already there. And Edwin and I are really close, he's one of my best friends on the team so getting to play with him on the field is really fun. We all know each other really well so we can read each other's movements and it's easy. Communication is obviously key but it's nice to know a guy and where he's moving without even talking. Hopefully those partnerships continue to grow throughout the season and we do a good enough job to keep playing together.

Obrian

Forward Jáder Obrian picked up where he left off at the end of the 2021 season and scored FCD's opening goal of the season last week. The Colombian had a slow start to his inaugural MLS campaign but found his form late on, scoring six of his nine goals over the last 10 games. Obrian's timing in the box could prove vital in Foxborough as center forward Jesús Ferreira is tasked with dropping slightly deeper to add another play-making dimension to Dallas' midfield and attack.
