STORY LINES
New Era(s)
- Both FC Dallas and Toronto FC are kickstarting new eras as they enter the 2022 season. Dallas appointed former Columbus Crew and USMNT assistant coach Nico Estévez as the eighth coach in club history in December and Toronto hired veteran coach Bob Bradley during the offseason. Saturday's match will be Estévez's first outing as an MLS head coach while Bradley will be taking charge of his 397th league game. FC Dallas enjoyed a strong preseason, registering wins against Houston Dynamo FC (2-1) and San Antonio FC (6-0) and a scoreless draw with Chicago Fire FC earlier this month.
Nico Estévez: "We're very excited, we can't wait to be on the field Saturday with our fans and supporters. We want to compete as best we can and win the game. We want the fans to be proud of our work and everything that we're doing with the team. We want them to have a good time and enjoy the team on the field."
"(Toronto) has a good coach in Bob Bradley. He has a lot of experience in the league and a lot of experience in international soccer. He brings a team that wants to attack, that wants to impose their style and be aggressive in pressing. This will give us a challenge that we've been working for all week. We want to impose our style and challenge them."
New Faces
FC Dallas had an offseason to remember as the club welcomed several new faces to the locker room. The money garnered from Ricardo Pepi's transfer to the German Bundesliga was to put to use as FCD made an MLS-record trade to acquire USMNT winger Paul Arriola from D.C. United for $2 million in General Allocation Money. Fellow new signings Maarten Paes (GK), Marco Farfan (LB) and Nanu (RB) also featured heavily in recent preseason games and could make their FC Dallas debuts on Saturday. The club also added three players from the 2022 MLS SuperDraft with midfielder Tsiki Ntsabeleng and defenders Isaiah Parker and Lucas Bartlett joining the fold alongside new Homegrown goalkeeper Antonio Carrera.
Paul Arriola: "I'm super excited, it's going to be a great game, a great start to the season. I'm very confident in this club and coaching staff and my teammates that we'll be able to start off on the right foot. No matter who comes in, it's the first game of the season, we want to defend our house and I think it's extremely important for us to be as strong as we can at home."
"The chemistry so far has been great. I think the players that we have are really high quality. A lot of guys with great ideas, creativity and when you add in a system it makes everyone understand what each other's roles are. So for me, it's been great."
