STORY LINES
And We're Back
FC Dallas returns to MLS action after a three-week break – its longest of the season – and takes on tenth-place Vancouver Whitecaps. The three weeks of quiet was a welcome reprieve for a Dallas team that played four games in 14 days, a run that included two wins and two losses. Despite the two defeats (which were just FCD's second and third of the season), Nico Estevez's team is still sitting pretty in second place in the Western Conference. Now, Dallas will look to build upon its impressive 3-1 win over Orlando City last time out and make it back-to-back wins before going on the road against conference rivals Austin FC and LAFC.
Redemption Game
Saturday's match is the first time in 2022 that FCD will play against a repeat opponent in MLS play. Dallas and Vancouver faced off last month at BC Place Stadium and the Canadians took the spoils with a 2-1 win despite FCD opening the scoring in the first half through Paul Arriola. The defeat was a particularly painful one for Dallas who led for the majority of the game before eventually falling to a 92nd-minute penalty from Lucas Cavallini. Now with a few weeks rest and home advantage, FCD has a good chance for redemption on Saturday.
Ferreira and Arriola
FC Dallas' two top scorers, Jesús Ferreira and Paul Arriola, have been busy with the U.S. Men's National Team during the break. Ferreira started three of the four games over the window and stole the headlines last Friday with a four-goal effort in the U.S.'s 5-0 win over Grenada (Arriola had the other goal and assisted Ferreira's second). The duo is set to return to team training on Thursday, but the short turnaround casts some doubt over their level of involvement on Saturday.
