Soon-to-be Father Fabian Castillo Relishes Game-Winning Goal in 3-2 Victory over Colorado

Fabian Castillo

FRISCO - Pretty soon, Fabian Castillo will have to take on a whole different kind of responsibility off the field and at the same time, he’s beginning to take on a lot more responsibility on the field.

Castillo was able to break the 2-2 tie in the 62nd minute making a darting, slaloming run with a fantastic goal at the end that propelled FCD to its first win since April.

“He created the play, he took the players on, and the finish was fantastic,” head coach Oscar Pareja said.

After his game-winning goal, the soon-to-be father put the ball under his shirt, imitating a woman that is pregnant, a similar one to the celebration we saw three weeks ago after his goal against Chivas USA.

“I dedicated it [my goal] to my wife because she’s pregnant," said Castillo. "So it was for her and my baby that is coming.”

Fabian has been taking on much more responsibility starting in 14 of the season’s 15 games so far. He already has twice as many goals this year as he did last season with half the 2014 campaign remaining and his four goals brings him within one of the team’s leading goal-scorer Michel.

Along with this new responsibility on the field, comes new responsibility off the field although they may not be the same.

“I know there’s a lot of responsibility with being a father," said Castillo. "but this is my work and it’s another type of responsibility but I’m taking it and enjoying it."

The three points FCD was able to get from this match was huge for the confidence of the team, especially going into a two-week world cup break coming up after Wednesday’s game in Portland.

“It was pretty spectacular seeing him do what he does, gliding and dancing through people," said Zach Loyd. "But to put that finishing touch on it was great to see and a huge confidence builder for him going into Portland.”
