FRISCO – FC Dallas faced a little a blip in their effort to pull away in the Western Conference, suffering a 3-1 home loss to San Jose. The win was San Jose's first since May 12 and their first win in MLS not against Minnesota since September 30, 2017.
Dallas will now head to Seattle to face the Sounders on Sunday, a team that has quietly moved up the standings the last couple of weeks. They are currently in eighth place and have won four games in a row, having not lost a match since June 30. They defeated Minnesota United FC last week 2-1 after scoring two goals in stoppage time.
Dallas still has some padding in their lead, up five points to second-place Portland.
Portland made the jump from the fourth place to second this week after a 3-0 home win over Philadelphia. Portland is unbeaten in their last 15 games, going 10-0-5 in that span. They also have two games in-hand over FC Dallas, LAFC and Sporting KC.
LAFC and Sporting KC are tied for third in the conference with 36 points in the conference and will face each other on Saturday in LA. Both teams have struggled as of late, with LAFC registering two points in their last four games and SKC with one win in their last six matches.
The LA Galaxy trail LAFC and SKC by one point after giving up the game-winning goal to Colorado in the 90th minute. Kellyn Acosta scored again for the Rapids, his second in as many matches since being traded.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC stole a point on the road against NYCFC after Erik Hurtado tied the game up at 2 in the 87th minute. Vancouver is sitting in seventh place, four points out of RSL for the final playoff spot.
Houston dropped a home match to SKC 1-0 in a game where emotions flew. Houston was handed three red cards during the match and will now be missing Alejandro Fuenmayor (14 starts), Darwin Cerén (12 starts) and leading point-scorer Alberth Ellis (21 starts) against LAFC on Wednesday. The trio will be back for Saturday's match in Columbus.
