Following FC Dallas’ 4-2 win Saturday in New England, both Tesho Akindele and Kellyn Acosta have been named to MLS’ Team of the Week for their performances.
Akindele scored two goals Saturday, the first coming on a fifth-minute penalty kick and the second being the game’s final goal, off a lovely through ball from Acosta at the top of the box, which he calmly slotted into the right corner of the net past a lunging Bobby Shuttleworth. The brace brought the Canadian international’s total for the season to five, matching last year’s mark in less than half the minutes played.
Acosta, who made an early appearance as a sub after Michael Barrios went down with an injury, finished his shift with two assists as he filled in as a right winger, playing higher up than his normal defensive midfielder spot.
Acosta nabbed his second and third assists of the season and has already eclipsed last season’s total of two.
It’s the second straight week an FC Dallas player has made an appearance on the Team of the Week after Walker Zimmerman did so following his performances against the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders.
