Both players will depart after Sunday's match vs. Sounders FC
FRISCO – Forward Tesho Akindele (Canada) and midfielder Paxton Pomykal (U.S. Under-20 National Team) have been called in to represent their respective national teams for the FIFA international break running from March 19 to March 27.
Both players will depart after FC Dallas’ match this Sunday, March 18 vs. Seattle Sounders FC. The match, presented by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, kicks off at 4 PM CT.
Akindele, 25, will join Canada for a friendly match against New Zealand at Pinatar Arena in Murcia, Spain, on March 24. The team will host a one-week camp building up to the friendly. The match is Canada’s first of the 2018 international season, one which will build towards a new cycle of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on the road to Qatar in 2022.
Akindele had four goals in 15 starts last season. The 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year has 22 goals and eight assists in five seasons (114 appearances) with FC Dallas.
Pomykal, 20, led the FC Dallas Academy U19s to its first Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup’s Gordon Jago Super Group Championship on April 16, 2017. A year earlier, Pomykal helped the FC Dallas Academy claim both the U16 and U18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy National Championships. The midfielder made two appearances for the FC Dallas first team in MLS play last season.
