FRISCO, TX (October 18, 2021) – Navo Middle School celebrated the dedication of a new mini-pitch this morning. The new field is the result of collaboration between the FC Dallas Foundation, CoServ and Globe Life and will benefit hundreds of children through Navo Middle School and the GOAL Program on a year-round basis.
The GOAL Program, Guys and Girls Operating as Leaders, is a teacher created and operated 501(c)(3) that uses soccer as a key component of leadership training for students grades 3-8. “The mini-pitch is a wonderful addition to Navo Middle School and will serve not only the GOAL students, but children throughout the area interested in the Beautiful Game,” said GOAL Co-Founder Chris Ice. “Additionally, because of the unique surface and size of the mini-pitch, it creates the ideal space for use with Adaptive PE students, thusly building a more inclusive environment for all students.”
At the dedication event, Denton Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Jamie Wilson applauded the FC Dallas Foundation’s commitment to the North Texas community. “We want to get our kids into something before they get into something. We want to see our kids up here playing pick up soccer games, meeting their friends here, bringing their families and just creating a place for people to gather and be together and rally around each other.”
The mini-pitch at Navo Middle School is the third field that the FC Dallas Foundation has built in Denton County and the ninth overall. The Pitch Development Program furthers the Foundation’s mission of supporting programs that promote educations, health and wellness to empower youth and communities in North Texas.
“It’s so important for the FC Dallas Foundation to partner with programs like GOAL, Guys and Girls Operating as Leaders, because we are providing a place for these kids to come out, get active, build teamwork and just play the beautiful sport of soccer together,” said FC Dallas Foundation Director Brooke Leverette.
”At the end of the day, giving back to the community is huge,” said Mario Zavala, Manager of Communications & Brand Engagement at CoServ. “Whether it’s helping out students, supporting veterans, feeding the elderly, there are several big things we have done together with FC Dallas, the FC Dallas Foundation, and the CoServ Charitable Foundation. It’s important to show that people mean something.”
“Globe Life strives to make tomorrow better for the communities where we live and work,” said Globe Life’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Jennifer Haworth. “To see something like this come to life right in our backyard and to watch these kids out here playing soccer, enjoying a beautiful day and having this amazing facility is just everything to us because it makes that mission come to life.”
The FC Dallas Foundation, which is the process of completing their tenth field in ten years at My Possibilities in Plano, has also built community fields at Mercy St. in West Dallas, Jubilee Park in East Dallas, the Moreland Family YMCA in South Dallas and The Salvation Army in East Plano among other locations.
