FRISCO, Texas – Three former FC Dallas Women's players, Madison Haley, Addison McCain and Taryn Torres, were selected in the 2021 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) draft Wednesday night.
“For FC Dallas, it speaks to the quality of our development program as well as the quality of the individuals coming through it," said Matt Grubb, Director of the FC Dallas Girls' Academy. "We’re super proud of them for being drafted. To see them grow from young ages into really phenomenal soccer players and even better people. I think that’s also a big reason for why they’re successful. So, to see them getting drafted is phenomenal. It speaks to all their hard work and all the hours they put in and the quality of individual that they are.”
Haley, who played for the Dallas Texans at the youth level before competing for the FCD Women’s program, was the first former player off the board after being selected seventh overall by the Chicago Red Stars. Haley - who is the daughter of Pro Football Hall of Famer Charles Haley - played three seasons for the Stanford Cardinal, winning two NCAA National Championships and scoring 18 goals and adding 23 assists along the way. Individually, she was named to the All-Pac 12 first team in 2019 as well as its second team in 2018. Haley was also a member of the U.S. Women’s National U-20 team and has been called up to the senior squad on one occasion.
Wylie, Texas native Addie McCain was selected in the second round (17th overall) by the expansion side from Kansas City (which has yet to announce its team name). McCain joined the FCD Juniors as a 6-year-old in 2005 and remained with the organization until committing to play for Texas A&M University. She played 75 times for the Aggies accumulated 16 goals and 16 assists over her four seasons. During her senior year, McCain was named the 2020 SEC Midfielder of the Year after scoring five goals and notching two assists over the Aggies’ eight-game season.
Taryn Torres was the third and final former FC Dallas player chosen in this year’s draft, being selected by Sky Blue FC with the 23rd overall pick. Torres is a product of the FC Dallas youth system and played four seasons at the University of Virginia. During her time with the Cavaliers, she scored 11 goals and added 10 assists in 67 games and was included in the All-ACC Second Team in 2019—her last full season. A former U.S. youth international, Torres will team up with USWNT legend Carli Lloyd at Sky Blue FC for the upcoming season.
