FRISCO - FC Dallas’ final regular season match against Sporting Kansas City is as high pressure as they come. Occupying the final playoff spot in the West and one point above 8th place San Jose, FCD must win on Sunday to guarantee a berth to the 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
Although it will undoubtedly be a nervy contest on Sunday, here are three reasons why FC Dallas fans can be optimistic when Decision Day presented by AT&T kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 3 PM at Toyota Stadium.
Fortress Frisco
Dallas has home field advantage over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday which is crucial as Dallas have been strong at Toyota Stadium all season. FCD has only lost one game on home turf in 2019, posting an overall record of 9-1-6 in Frisco.
FC Dallas 2, Sporting KC 0
FC Dallas has already defeated Sporting KC once this season. FCD travelled to Children’s Mercy Park in July and earned a crucial 2-0 victory on the road, courtesy of goals from Jesus Ferreira and Dominique Badji. While Sunday’s game is obviously a new contest, FC Dallas should have an increased self-belief knowing they’ve earned all three points against this opponent two months prior.
Notable Absences
Sporting KC will be missing some key personnel when they visit Frisco on Sunday. Midfielders Ilie Sanchez and Roger Espinoza will miss out on Decision Day as both players received red cards in Kansas City’s previous match – a 2-2 draw with Portland Timbers. While they can’t be taken lightly, Sporting will undoubtedly be weaker considering they’ll be without two regular starters.
