2014: Played a larger role for Toronto in his second MLS season, making 20 appearances and 13 starts in league play… Canadian Championship: Started both games as Toronto edged Vancouver on penalty kicks in their semifinal series… Appeared in both games, starting the second leg, of the final, which Toronto lost to Montreal 2-1 on aggregate. 2013: Selected by Toronto FC with the third pick of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 17… Made his professional debut by starting on Opening Day, March 2, in 1-0 loss at Vancouver… Made nine MLS appearances on the season, including three starts… Canadian Championship: Started both matches as Toronto were eliminated by Montreal in the semifinals… Reserve League: Made seven appearances for Toronto in MLS Reserve League play, scoring two goals.
College
Played four years at Boston College 2009-12… Scored 17 goals and added 22 assists, second in school history, in 80 career games… He was twice named all-Atlantic Coast Conference (2011, 2012) and was named to the ACC's all-freshman team in 2009.
Youth
Prior to joining Boston College, Bekker played his youth soccer with the Oakville Bluestars winning the Ontario Cup championship twice (2004 and 2005) along with the national title in 2004... In 2006, he joined the Mississauga Dixie Dominators and won back-to-back Ontario Cup championships in 2006 and 2007 and added another national title in 2006… Bekker then moved onto the Sigma Elite Training Centre program prior to his collegiate career… In 2008, Bekker earned an invitation to train with AFC Ajax youth academy.
International
Canada international (13 caps)… After playing for Canadian youth national teams from the age of 15, Bekker was a key player for the U-23 team in CONCACAF Olympic qualifying in March 2012… Made his senior debut on Jan. 26, 2013, starting in a 4-0 loss to Denmark in Tucson, Arizona… Totaled seven appearances for Canada in 2013, six of them starts, including two games at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July… Made six appearances for Canada in 2014, including playing the second half in a 3-1 win vs. Jamaica on Sept. 9 to break a 16-game winless streak.
