FRISCO – He arrived to Frisco, Texas, about three months ago and has started in two of his five appearances with FC Dallas. He’s already a prominent player with the team as he is the first Chilean in club history. His name: Pablo Aránguiz.
As the eight edition of the popular 24 Under 24 series transitions to a younger group of 22 Under 22, it is no surprise that Dallas' new No. 10 made it to the list at No. 18. Aránguiz who saw full-time action in Chiles Primera Division made a name for himself after being named the U-20 player of the year in Chile. An award voted on by the players themselves. Now, he ranks #18 on 22 Under 22, a list acquired by the players technical ability, tactical IQ, physical attributes and future potential.
“Well the truth is that it caught me by surprise but I am very grateful,” said Aránguiz. “I think that's just the credit one has of what one has been doing from the start of this journey, from the very beginning in my country. I take the news in the most humble way and I am very happy at the same time. I was surprised but very happy.”
Aránguiz who continues his transition to the MLS quickly began adjusting with FC Dallas's style of play, in order to show his potential. His skills where showcased on the field as he began integrating with the team and was named to the MLS Team of the Week just three weeks and four days upon his arrival. Keep in mind, this was the first start in Aránguiz's young FCD career. As the Chilean became a key player in that match, creating offense with skilled passes, vision and shooting ability he became the No.10 that FC Dallas was looking for. That game resulted in a victory for the FC Dallas team, but that is only the beginning.
“I think there are many young talented players who are going to take a huge leap, (in MLS)" said Aránguiz. "I also think that this is a merit and I also want to congratulate my colleagues from other teams who have been named on this list. I think that with the small amount of time in being here, I still have a lot more to show and a lot more to prove. However, I think they have a good image of me, of what I did in Chile. I think one proposes great things. I hope this is my trampoline because I aspires a lot of things obviously as a profesional soccer player. But, as I mentioned, I am very happy, I hope I get the opportunities that I have been waiting for 100% and when I do get them I hope to showcase everything I have.”
Today, the players that ranked No. 11-22 were revealed and the top 10 reveal will take place on a special Edition of Extra Time Live drives by Continental at 1PM CT. on October 4.
