FRISCO – It's been over a month since the FC Dallas Academy teams have played a match, but that didn't stop the squads from picking up valuable divisional wins over Lonestar SC in their first matches of 2013 last weekend. On the Pre Academy side, the U-14s and U-13s returned to action two weekends ago, but the U-15s' first match of the year was cancelled.
FC Dallas U-18s: 2
Lonestar SC: 1
The U-18s' goals against Lonestar came in dramatic fashion as forward Victor Portillo gave FC Dallas the lead in the 45th minute, just before halftime. In the second half, Lonestar battled back as midfielder Alexis Martinez scored on a direct free kick in the 83rd minute to tie the match late. FC Dallas refused to settle for a draw though, as the team turned up the pressure in the final five minutes and Portillo scored his second goal of the game off a cross from Fernando Laverde in the 90th minute to secure the 2-1 win.
FC Dallas is now in third place in the Frontier Division, with games in-hand over the first-place Dallas Texans and second-place Houston Dynamo.
