FRISCO, Texas - Representatives from FC Dallas, the city of Frisco and Moss Construction gathered at Toyota Stadium Wednesday afternoon for a groundbreaking event to kickoff the venue’s three-year renovation that will see it become one of the premier MLS stadia once again.
Toyota Stadium – which originally opened as MLS’s third soccer-specific stadium in 2005 – announced in September of 2024 that it would undergo a $182 million renovation over the next few seasons. Wednesday’s event marks the start of renovations beginning with the east side of the park.
“Now 20 years later we're having effectively a re-groundbreaking of this amazing facility and it's no longer in the middle of nowhere, this is the middle of where everything is happening in North Texas, it's the epicenter of growth,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “We've crowned champions here. From hosting FCS Championships, concerts, there are lots of memories and amazing things that have happened in this facility. We’re to looking forward for the next 30 years, and continue to have FC Dallas as one of our partners.
“On behalf of our residents that love coming to games here, thank you for continuing to invest in our community, thank you for investing in the stadium…this is all part of our efforts to really lean in to make sure we're taking care of FC Dallas, our professional soccer franchise right here in Frisco, Texas.”
Earlier this month FC Dallas announced it has partnered with Moss Construction, a top-ranked construction firm with a strong base in the DFW area, to renovate Toyota Stadium. The project will be done in phases beginning with the venue’s east side to allow FCD to continue to play home matches in front of its fans.
“On behalf of Moss Construction and our team, we're proud to be a part of transforming the home pitch of FC Dallas' Toyota Stadium into a more future-focused and high-tech venue,” said Moss Construction Senior Vice President Jim Cuddihee. “This is not your typical renovation. We're constructing the new Toyota Stadium while games are still being played without compromising the fan experience. The game day experience here is already fantastic, but we're going to make it even better. The enhancements coming to Toyota Stadium are thoughtful and laser focused on elevating the venue's atmosphere.”

Cuddihee talked through some of the features the new Toyota Stadium will provide, including new state-of-the-art club spaces, updated entrances on the north, east and west sides, as well as the all-important canopy that will provide both shade and protection from the elements. The stadium will also have increased seating capacity, more concessions and restrooms, as well as the largest video board in any MLS-specific venue.
“We're getting ready to take the next gigantic leap forward,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. "We're going to build what I think will be the finest small soccer-specific stadium in the entire world. And I say that recognizing that this is a global game. But it will have more suites, more club seats, and the largest video board. We're doing everything Texas-sized here.
“But this is just the beginning of this journey, right? We have had an amazing 20 years here, but we're long-range investors and we're long-range partners so it's not about the next 20 years, it is about what the next 100 years look like and where this will take us. It’s about how we continue to grow FC Dallas, how we continue to grow North Texas SC, how we continue to grow the men's game, the women's game, support the school district, and lift trophies because that's our number one objective. I am so excited that you're here today to celebrate this great new beginning with us.”
