FRISCO- FC Dallas faces San Jose for the second time this season and believes that this game is going to be different than the last. Across the team they have confidence in their development and style of their game.
Head coach Luchi Gonzalez saw a lot of improvement in their style and technique since their previous matchup on April 27th. He said, “All the teams are working on their styles and concepts.”
Thomas Roberts has seen this style develop and has been working on his own way to help the team. He’s gotten a few starts this season due to all the roster changes. He notes that the midfield pieces missing has been a learning and adapting process.
Although the roster has changed Roberts said, “I don’t see it as much as a challenge. I think we have to play our game, and if we play our game we’ll get it done.”
Midfielder Jacori Hayes saw how unique San Jose’s style of play was in the match earlier this season. He knows that preparing this week will be key in counteracting San Jose’s man-marking style. He said, “It’ll be important that we coordinate our movements.” He knows that FC Dallas is used to a fluid roster but believes their style is consistent across the board, and that everyone has bought in to Luchi Gonzalez’s mantra.
The biggest challenge for Hayes heading into the week is, “New faces. New faces in different positions, or new faces that haven’t started before.”
“I feel good in where we are. Taking our steps in how we want to play with and without the ball.” Gonzalez said. “I feel we’ve been consistent in trying to play a certain way in the last few weeks, and improve it and master it. Looking forward to doing this against a team that has a very complicated system.”
FC Dallas will continue to grow in to their style as they head to San Jose this weekend to put these improvements to the test as the season continues.
