Itās the end of the road for FC Dallas in 2024. Before we put the 2024 season completely in the rearview mirror, letās take a look back at some of its highlight, starting with the five best goals of the year.
Asier Illarramendi vs. San Jose | Feb. 24
Veteran midfielder Asier Illarramendi makes the list with his goal on opening day back in February. Following the goalkeeperās punched clearance, Illarramendi takes a great first touch to bring the ball down and evade the defender before hitting a picture-perfect half-volley with his weak foot right into the bottom corner. It was FCDās very first goal of 2024 but it stands the test of time.
Patrickon Delgado vs. Tampa Bay | May 22
The only entry from this yearās Open Cup is courtesy of Patrickson Delgado. Following a short corner routine, JesĆŗs Ferreira played the ball to the top of the box for Delgado to smash into the roof of the net with the laces of his weaker left foot. If the net wasnāt there, thereās a chance the ball wouldāve ended up in the bay next to Tampaās Al Lang Stadium.
Liam Fraser vs. Minnesota | June 8
Midfielder Liam Fraser only scored one goal this year but he certainly made it count. Dallas was trailing 1-0 in Minnesota when JesĆŗs Ferreira played a short corner to Asier Illarramendi who squared it to Fraser to have a hit. The Canadian international didnāt think twice and curled a rocket into the far side of the net with his right foot to put FCD on level terms.
JesĆŗs Ferreira vs. RSL | Sept. 18
Ferreiraās goal against Real Salt Lake was so sneaky that even the broadcast was fooled (they missed the goal live because they were showing a replay). Dallas earned a free kick about 35 yards out and instead of waiting for RSL to set up a wall, Ferreira took an opportunistic shot on goal. And not just any shot. With almost no run up, the FCD Homegrown hit a shot that started outside the post before curling back in, clipping the upright and evading the goalkeeper. Despite RSLās protests, the referee saw no reason to disallow it.
Patrickson Delgado vs LAFC | Sept. 21
Delgadoās strike against LAFC was good on its own but the goal is really about the buildup play before it. It started all the way at the back with Maarten Paes who hit a longball to JesĆŗs Ferreira to chest it down to Ruan, who then played it back to Ferreira. Without missing a beat, Ferreira hit a first-time cross-field ball to Paul Arriola who drove forward before finding Logan Farrington. With his back to goal, Farrington layed it off for Delgado who smashed it into the bottom corner at the near post. A texbook team goal.
