September 17, 2024 was a marquee day in the history of Toyota Stadium, home of FC Dallas. The Frisco City Council voted unanimously to approve a $182 million public-private partnership with the Hunt family to renovate the stadium over the next four years.

When the new Toyota Stadium is completed, it will include expanded seating capacity (175% increase in club seating, 58% increase in suite capacity and 10% in overall seating capacity), a roof structure to provide much-needed shade, a new video board that will measure 6,000 square feet (the largest among soccer-specific stadia in MLS), increased concession areas, a new press box and 26% more restrooms.

The renderings below show what the new Toyota Stadium will look like upon completion in 2028.

Redevelopment construction is slated to begin in early 2025, nearly two decades after Toyota Stadium first opened on Aug. 6, 2005 as Pizza Hut Park. Toyota Stadium was MLS’s third soccer-specific venue after Columbus Crew Stadium (now Historic Crew Stadium) and LA Galaxy’s Home Depot Center (now Dignity Health Sports Park).

Construction on Toyota Stadium/Pizza Hut Park began in February of 2004 in the mostly-undeveloped downtown Frisco area. The original build was part of an $80 million development that included the surrounding complex of full-size training fields now known as Toyota Soccer Center.

FC Dallas welcomed fans to its new home (which was still needing its finishing touches) for the very first time on Aug. 6, 2005 with a match against the NY/NJ MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls). The teams played to a 2-2 draw with Carlos Ruiz scoring both goals for the home side.

The stadium, which adopted its current name Toyota Stadium in 2013, remained in its original state for over a decade until FC Dallas and the City of Frisco agreed to bring the National Soccer Hall of Fame to the south end of the venue. The $55 million renovation began in 2016 and included new locker rooms and two new club spaces beneath the Hall of Fame, which officially opened in late 2018.

Now, six years after its most recent facelift, Toyota Stadium will undergo its most transformative period since its original construction 20 years ago. The renovation will be done in two segments beginning with the east side in 2025 followed by the west side in 2026. The new Toyota Stadium is scheduled to be completed in early 2028.
