#FCDvCOL: Reggie Cannon Returns to Training Following Ankle Injury

FRISCO - After sustaining a sprain against the LA Galaxy, defender Reggie Cannon is back at training as Dallas gets set to host the Colorado Rapids.

“It’s a tough situation," Cannon said after training. "We’re rushing to push me back for Saturday, obviously I have the final word for what I want to do but nine times out of ten if you ask me if I’m going to play, I’m going to play. We’re managing it well.”

It’s the first injury sustained by Cannon on a professional level and he said that, “I’m trying to get back on the field and today it felt so good to get back out there. I’m taking every moment in and I’m not taking anything for granted.”

“Reggie is a piece that’s still young and developing, but a great personality, great young leader for the group and a performer on the field so we’re glad to have him back this week," said head coach Luchi Gonzalez, who is monitoring his defender's progress but is pushing to have him ready for Saturday as well.

Along with his own recovery Reggie is hoping to be on the field to support the younger guys fighting for a spot starting in the midfield this weekend with Carlos Gruezo and Bryan Acosta gone on international duty.

“I remember my first time out on the field...so I’m going to be that foundation, that rock for them whenever they need anything, you know if they make a mistake I’m there for them," he said. "I want to be that support for them. To let them play free and not hold them down but also hold them accountable. I want to be a good teammate when they get that opportunity because there will be changes and I have no doubt they’ll be stepping up and filling that role.”

Cannon’s status remains in the air until closer to the game, but his motivation and drive to be ready come Saturday is clear.
