LINEUP NOTES, pres. by UnitedHealthcare: FC Dallas vs. San Jose Earthquakes | 4.24.21 -

Tessmann Starts
Homegrown midfielder Tanner Tessmann makes his first start of the season as he steps in for Andrés Ricaurte in the middle of the park. Tessmann had a shortened preseason with FCD as he spent the first few months of 2021 with the U-23 USMNT for Olympic qualifying. The 19-year-old made 19 appearances and nine starts in his rookie season last year.

Consistency
Tessmann is the only new addition from what is otherwise an unchanged lineup from FCD's scoreless draw with Colorado Rapids in last week's home opener. Luchi sticks with the 3-4-3 formation that includes a front three of Jáder Obrian, Franco Jara and Freddy Vargas as well as a back three of José Martínez, Matt Hedges and Bressan. It's also a lineup that we saw multiple times during preseason so it seems that the coaching staff is looking to maintain a sense of consistency in their personnel choices early on.

Homegrown Bench
Last week's home opener proved to be the first time since 2014 that FC Dallas' starting lineup didn't include a Homegrown player. However, there were no fewer than six Homegrowns on the bench, with two (Ricardo Pepi and Paxton Pomykal) entering the match as second-half substitutes. This time out, FCD lines up with one Homegrown on the field (Tessmann) with five others available from the subs bench.
