STORY LINES
- Win and We're In: Saturday's mission is simple: win. FC Dallas will clinch a playoff spot with a victory over Colorado, marking the fifth time in the last six seasons the club has advanced to the postseason. Dallas currently occupies ninth place, the final playoff spot, with a game in hand (FCD has played 32 games while most have played 33). With two teams (Minnesota and SKC) just one point behind, it's vital for Dallas to take advantage of the game in hand and claim all three points against Colorado. If not, the club will travel to LA Galaxy on Decision Day needing a result (likely a win) to remain above the playoff line. Needing to win on the road is not the scenario anyone wants on the final day of the season.
- One Wild Stat: Get ready for one of the strangest stats of the season. Currently, FC Dallas is enjoying its longest unbeaten streak of the season while simultaneously experiencing its longest winless streak of the season. As you can probably deduce, that is made possible by a run of four consecutive draws (which is an all-time club record, by the way). So, although Dallas hasn't lost in seven games, they haven't won in four either. And at this point in the season, a draw can feel like a loss. It certainly would if FCD isn't able to defeat Colorado this Saturday.
- The Rapids: The Colorado Rapids head to Toyota Stadium as one of three Western Conference teams already eliminated from playoff contention. The Rapids sit in 14th place with just five wins this season, two of which came on the road. Despite that, this won't be a straightforward game for Dallas. Colorado has already defeated FCD once this season when Dallas traveled to Dick's Sporting Goods Park back in July. Plus, the Rapids' form has improved since the club parted ways with former head coach Robin Fraser at the start of September (two of Colorado's five wins this year came over the latter half of the month). On the bright side for FC Dallas, the Rapids' last outing didn't go well as they lost 5-1 to the Houston Dynamo, a result that included a disastrous first-half performance where they conceded four goals.
