STORY LINES

Response

FC Dallas heads to Miami looking to turn the page from a frustrating 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers last weekend. It looked like Dallas had their third home win in a row as they held a one-goal lead going into the 90th minute (Facundo Quignon opened the scoring with his second-ever MLS goal). But it wasn't to be. The Timbers, who defended resolutely for much of the game, found a timely equalizer thanks to Franck Boli's excellent first-time shot from outside the box in the 91st minute. It was just the Timbers' second shot on goal all game, hence FCD's frustration at the result. Nico Estévez and co. will look to respond by earning their first away victory of the season down in Florida.

Position Battle

There's a good ol' fashioned position battle going on at right back in Dallas. The new man in town Geovane Jesus was handed his first MLS start last week as Ema Twumasi served a one-game red card suspension. The 21-year-old Brazilian had a strong outing, leading Dallas in crosses, tackles, clearances and duels. With Ema Twumasi is available for selection this week, does Nico Estévez continue to play the hot hand or does he reinstate the more-defensive Twumasi on the road? It's an interesting question. Regardless of the answer, it's a good situation for FCD with two proven starting-quality players competing for the spot. The winner will undoubtedly be better for it.

Miami

Inter Miami began the season in perfect fashion with back-to-back 2-0 wins at home. Since then, however, it's been anything but perfect. Phill Neville's team has lost four straight and were shutout three times during that run. But three of those four losses were on the road and Miami's home record still stands at a respectable 2-1-0. So, Dallas will need to be at their best and keep Josef Martinez, Miami's big offseason signing, quiet if they're going to earn their first away victory off the 2023 on Saturday.
