Story Lines
Keep Your Head Up: FC Dallas hosts the LA Galaxy on the back of a disappointing road trip. Last week, Dallas traveled to Kansas City for two games: a league match against SKC on Sunday before a rematch in the Open Cup the following Wednesday. Unfortunately, FCD returned empty handed. The club fell 3-2 to SKC in MLS play before its Open Cup run came to bitter end with a 2-1 loss after extra time (and a 2-hour rain delay). After a dismal week, it's crucial for FC Dallas' players and staff to keep the faith and forge ahead against the LA Galaxy on Saturday. Nothing cures a two-loss hangover like winning in front of your home fans.
Heavy Legs: Dallas is coming off two high-tension games in a short span of time, one of which went all the way to 120 minutes, so there will likely be some heavy legs on Saturday. Interim head coach Peter Luccin tried to mitigate that by making six rotations for FCD's first outing against SKC last Sunday, but there's only so much you can do while Dallas also is dealing with a heavy slate of injuries. With that in mind, there's a chance Luccin will need to look at the bottom half of his roster once again. Having given youngsters Tarik Scott and Tomas Pondeca their MLS debuts in recent weeks, it's clear Luccin is unafraid of giving his inexperienced players an opportunity to shine. Saturday's game offers another chance to test their mettle.
LAG: The Galaxy are enjoying a strong season under head coach Greg Vanney. The club is sitting in third place in the Western Conference with 12-4-7 record and have won seven of its last nine games. That's not good news for Dallas considering the clubs have already met earlier this year with the Galaxy earning a 3-1 victory in Carson, CA. On the other hand, FCD has typically had LA's number in Frisco as Dallas has won the last seven consecutive matches against them (the Galaxy last won at Toyota Stadium in 2015). An eighth home win in a row against the Galaxy would do a lot for Dallas' confidence, in addition to the much-needed three points.
