Story Lines
Must Win, Again: It's another must-win scenario when FC Dallas hosts Eastern Conference opponent Orlando City SC this Saturday. Dallas performed well under the same pressure last week, defeating LAFC 3-1 to keep their playoff hopes alive. The win moved Dallas up to 10th place (leapfrogging Austin FC), however, since Minnesota United won their game, FCD is still five points away from qualifying for the play-in game. With that in mind, Dallas will likely need to win at least three of their last four games, while also hoping Minnesota don't earn maximum points, to reach the postseason. Since this is FCD's second-to-last home game, it's paramount to earn all three points before going on the road for a two-game trip against San Jose and Portland.
Rookie's Ready: Forward Logan Farrington is quietly putting together a standout rookie campaign. The Oregon State product scored the final goal in last week's win over LAFC to bring his season tally to four league goals plus eight assists. Having only played 1070 minutes in MLS this season, Farrington is averaging a goal contribution every 89 minutes. It's fair to say the 22-year-old is having the most impactful rookie campaign for FC Dallas since fellow forward Tesho Akindele, who was named the 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year after recording seven goals and three assists. While it's very difficult to displace first-choice striker Petar Musa in the starting lineup, Farrington's goal-scoring ability off the bench could prove vital against Orlando City Saturday night.
Papi's Orlando: Orlando City, led by former FCD head coach (and player) Ćscar Pareja, return to Toyota Stadium for the first time since 2020. Under Pareja's leadership, Orlando have gone from perennial underachievers to perennial playoff contenders. And the same holds true this year as Orlando are in 5th place in the East with a 12-11-7 record. Although they've never won at Toyota Stadium, Orlando form includes seven wins from their last 10 games meaning Dallas will have their hands full with Papi's purple team.
