Story Lines

End of the Road: FC Dallas' final road match of 2024 comes with very little on the line for the away team. Dallas' playoff dreams were ended midweek as the club was defeated 3-1 by the San Jose Earthquakes, mathematically eliminating FCD from postseason contention. Now, Dallas will play for pride and look to earn their second road win of the season before returning home to close out the season on Oct. 19 at Toyota Stadium.

Portland's Outlook: While Sunday's game has little meaning for Dallas, there's plenty on the line for Portland. Although the Timber's clinched the postseason with Austin FC's loss on Saturday, Portland still has a chance of leapfrogging both Vancouver (8th) and Minnesota (7th) into an automatic first-round playoff spot to avoid the play-in game. And, even if Minnesota win their remaining game, Portland will want to earn maximum points from their final two to have a chance of hosting the play-in game instead of Vancouver. With a rivalry match against Seattle on Decision Day, Portland will be desperate to earn all three points on Sunday to give themselves the best chance at postseason success.
