STORY LINES

  • Winning Feeling: That all-important winning feeling is back as FC Dallas snapped a four-game winless run with a 2-0 victory over St. Louis City Wednesday night. It was an important win, too. St. Louis are the Western Conference leaders and Dallas had dropped its previous two games (against SKC and Nashville) going into it. Plus, it was FCD's first shutout at home despite having already kept three on the road. Couple that with yet another Jesús Ferreira game-winning goal and the FCD locker room has every reason to feel good about itself heading into a tough away trip at Portland.
  • Payback: There's a little extra motivation for FC Dallas heading into Sunday's game. We're just two months removed from the first edition of FCD vs. Portland it was a game Dallas players won't soon forget. Dallas was just minutes away from taking all three points at Toyota Stadium on April 1 thanks to a 73rd-minute goal from Facu Quignon. But the Timbers rallied. Substitute Franck Boli volleyed his team back back into the points on what was his MLS debut. That game, perhaps more than any other in 2023, is one FCD would like to have back. While that's impossible, they do have the next best thing: a rematch with Portland with three more points on the line. I can guarantee Dallas would love to get some payback at Providence Park.
  • Providence Park: Speaking of Providence Park, it's proven to be a tough place for FC Dallas over the years. Dallas has exactly one win there in 12 attempts during the regular season and that was back in 2016. The club did earn a victory in Portland in the first round of the 2020 playoffs but there's a caveat. That was the COVID season so there were no fans. Plus, it went to penalties and therefore wasn't a regulation win. Clearly, Providence Park hasn't been a happy hunting ground for Dallas but that could change this time around. Portland hasn't been as imperious at home as usual (3-2-2) and FCD has proven it can grind out results in tough places this year (think back to Austin and Minnesota away). Could this be the time Dallas finally vanquishes their Providence Park demons? Tune in Sunday night to find out.
