Story Lines

Road Warrios: FC Dallas heads to Sandy, Utah to take on ninth-place Real Salt Lake this Saturday. While the club has experienced its fair share of troubles on the road in recent years, this trip could serve as a reprieve. Dallas have earned four points (a win and a draw) from their two road games so far in 2025, while uncharacteristically dropping back-to-back home matches to start the season. There could be an explanation, though. Head coach Eric Quill has ushered in a more direct, often counterattacking style of play this season – one that lends itself to being a dangerous road team. While that style may need some tweaking for home games, it could serve FCD well once again this Saturday at RSL’s America First Field.

Next Man Up: For the first time since 2021, FC Dallas' goal will be guarded by a 'keeper not named Maarten Paes or Jimmy Maurer. With Maurer now playing for Houston and Paes away on international duty, Homegrown shot-stopper Michael Collodi is set to make his first start for the club. The 23-year-old is an Academy product who signed with North Texas SC last year after four seasons at Columbia University. After a stellar campaign that included the MLS NEXT Pro Cup and Goalkeeper of the Year, Collodi earned a Homegrown deal and the first backup spot behind Paes. While it's a big test for the young 'keeper, Dallas should be in safe hands if Collodi can maintain the form he showed time and again for North Texas SC.

Real Salt Lake: Real Salt Lake has had an indifferent start to the new campaign. The club resides in 9th place in the West after two wins and two losses, including a 4-0 defeat to San Jose in the season opener. Head coach Pablo Mastroeni's men have bounced back though, earning impressive victories over Seattle Sounders and Houston Dynamo sandwiched by a defeat to high-flying newcomers San Diego FC. Dallas' chances on Saturday will be boosted by the fact RSL will be missing playmaker Diego Luna and winger Dominik Marczuk, who are away with their respective national teams. Although FCD lost at America First Field last season, the club earned back-to-back victories at the venue in 2022 and 2023.
