Story Lines
Close Out Strong: FC Dallas will end the 2024 season at home against Sporting Kansas City on MLS's Decision Day. There won't be any major decisions for Dallas or SKC, though, as both teams have already been mathmatically eliminated from playoff contention. Instead, both teams will be playing for pride and, perhaps, with a look to the future. FC Dallas will undoubtedly want to end a tough 2024 with a home win to give the fans something to cheer about before a crucial offseason period.
SKC: It's also been a tough season for Sporting Kansas City. Peter Vermes' team sits in 13th place with an 8-18-7 record and -14 goal difference. By the numbers, it's SKC's worst campaign since Vermes took charge back in 2009. They had an excellent chance of saving the season by reaching the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final (beating FC Dallas along the way) but fell 3-1 to LAFC last month. Much like Dallas, SKC will be playing for pride and the hope to end 2024 on a high note.
Toyota Stadium: Saturday's game will be the last time Toyota Stadium will be at full capacity for the next three years. As announced last month, the stadium will soon undergo a $182 million renovation project to be completed in 2028. In the meantime, one half of Toyota Stadium will be closed due to construction so the venue's capacity will be cut in half. for the 2025 season, only the west and south sides of the stadium will have open seating while the east side goes under construction. So, at Saturday's game, take a good look around because Toyota Stadium will look a lot different come 2025 and beyond.
