Story Lines

High Pressure: FC Dallas heads north of the border in need of a positive result. The team is coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 home loss to the Colorado Rapids (where Dallas led twice), leaving the side 7 points out of the automatic playoff spots and 3 points behind the play-in game. With seven games remaining, four of which are on the road, Dallas will need to start picking up points from unexpected places to climb above the playoff line. The first unexpected place could be away to the Vancouver Whitecaps, where Dallas has won just three times in 15 attempts. On the bright side, the Whitecaps have proven to be more dangerous on the road in 2024 (7 of their 12 wins have come on their travels) and FCD was able to earn a point at BC Place last season. Still, they'll need to do one better and earn a win this time around to bolster their playoff chances.

Designated Players: When the pressure is high, you turn to your most talented and influential player to make the difference. And as of last Saturday, Dallas' three highest-paid players are finally all available. Designated Players Alan Velasco, Jesús Ferreira and Petar Musa all shared the field for the first time ever in FCD's loss to Colorado, making it the first time the club fielded three DPs since last season. All three were second-half substitutes as they're working back from injuries but there's hope two or more will be fit enough to start in Vancouver.

Vancouver: The Whitecaps are enjoying a strong season as they occupy 5th place in the Western Conference with a 12-8-5 record. They're also coming off an impressive 1-0 road win over Austin FC, their fifth victory from their last seven league games. That good form could be disrupted somewhat as Vancouver will be missing five players for Saturday's game due to international duty: Ali Ahmed (Canada), Andrés Cubas (Paraguay), Ryan Gauld (Scotland), Fafà Picault (Haiti) and Pedro Vite (Ecuador). Dallas will also be affected by the international break and will be without starting GK Maarten Paes (Indonesia), Show Cafumana (Angola), Patrickson Delgado (Ecuador) and Carl Sainté (Haiti).
