Story Lines

Bounce Back: FC Dallas takes on the Vancouver Whitecaps looking to rebound from the first setback under new head coach Eric Quill. Last Saturday, Dallas tasted defeat for the first time this season in disappointing fashion. After taking the lead against the Chicago Fire in the 57th minute, FCD was unable to close out the game and conceded three goals over the last 10 minutes. In response, coach Quill took responsibility in the postgame press conference saying: "First, I’d like to apologize to our fan base. They didn’t deserve what happened tonight. This is my responsibility. I’ve been entrusted with leading this club on a mission. As coaches, we impact the game through our decisions, and this one was on me. The game was under control. I can make better decisions, and I’ll leave it at that." With Quill taking accountability for the defeat, he and his team have an opportunity to bounce back and make a statement at home against the high-flying Vancouver Whitecaps.

Big Dawg: Logan "Big Dawg" Farrington is living up to his nickname once again. After a stellar rookie season, the Oregon State product had to settle for a super-sub role in the opening two games of 2025 (although he almost won the game in Colorado with a goal off the bench that was controversially called offside). In game three, however, Quill added Farrington to the starting lineup against Chicago and the 23-year-old took his chance with the opening goal in the 57th minute before being substituted shortly after – a decision Quill later admitted. Considering Farrington's eye for goal and overall impact on the game, expect Farrington to play a major role once against this Saturday.

The Whitecaps: Dallas hosts the Vancouver Whitecaps who are enjoying a hot start to 2025. The Whitecaps are one of two teams in MLS with a perfect record through three games (Philadelphia Union is the other). They're also doing well on the continent having progressed to the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals by defeating Liga MX's Monterrey Wednesday night. Although Dallas has three days of extra rest, Vancouver will be one of the club's sternest early tests (especially considering FCD has won just once in the last 10 meetings with the Whitecaps). On the flip side, Vancouver will be without their talisman as Scottish playmaker Ryan Gauld suffered a knee injury last week and is expected to miss the next few games.
