FRISCO - FC Dallas remains with 29 points after a 3-0 loss to Red Bulls on Saturday. That combined with a Sporting KC win, pushed KC into sole possession of first in the conference and FCD into second.
Sporting beat the Houston Dynamo 3-2. SKC was down 2-0 in the second half, but scored three unanswered, ending with Khiry Shelton’s game-winner in the 88th minute. Houston remains in seventh place after the loss.
Minnesota United FC lost to the Colorado Rapids 3-2 on the road. The win was Colorado’s first since April 14. Tommy Smith headed in the game-winner off a corner kick in the 97th minute. Miguel Ibarra, who has started Minnesota’s last 13 games and leads the team in points, was given a red card and will have to sit out against FC Dallas on Friday night.
LAFC defeated Columbus Crew SC 2-0 behind two goals in the first ten minutes. Third-place LAFC only trails FCD by two points.
There is a four-point gap between third and the three teams tied for fourth; Real Salt Lake, Portland and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Real Salt Lake and Portland both played draws during the week. Real Salt Lake tied last-place San Jose 1-1. It was San Jose’s second consecutive draw after four losses. Portland drew Atlanta United FC 1-1. Atlanta is at the top of the league’s standings, totaling 34 points in 17 games.
Vancouver dropped their match to Philadelphia 4-0. Vancouver was handed two red cards in the loss.
The LA Galaxy remain in eighth place in the conference after having a bye. They will return to action against San Jose on Saturday.
Seattle tied the Chicago Fire 1-1, they are tied with Colorado for tenth place in the conference. Clint Dempsey scored his first goal of the season for the Sounders. It was his 47th regular season MLS goal for the club, tying Fredy Montero for the club record.
