FRISCO - FC Dallas picked up a point over the weekend, but it wasn't enough to keep a few Western Conference foes from leap-frogging them in the standings after Week 23. The top five teams were separated by three points a week ago and the story remains the same after a busy weekend.
Seattle took over the top spot in the West for the first time since 2015 for a brief time on Saturday afternoon after taking a 1-0 decision over Sporting KC at home, but the Dynamo rolled over the surging Quakes, 3-0, climbing their way to the top on wins and goal differential with a three-way tie on points.
FCD sits two points back of the lead pack still with two games in-hand thought and leads the West in points per game heading into a No. 3 vs. No. 4 matchup against Sporting KC on the road this weekend.
Portland stood pat on 34 points after a 4-1 loss to Toronto FC at home and San Jose maintained the last spot above the red line despite their loss, as did Vancouver with their spot just below it after a 1-0 loss to New England.
Real Salt Lake picked up the only win in the lower half of the table with a 1-0 result over DC United in a rain-postponed match that started Saturday and ended Sunday. The Galaxy took a 2-0 loss at home to NYCFC and Colorado jumped past Minnesota on a tiebreaker after a 0-0 draw in Frisco, while the Loons enjoyed the weekend off.
