The Story Continues
North Texas SC defeated St Louis CITY2 3-0 to become Western Conference Champions last Saturday. The original 90 minutes was not enough to decide the match as it headed into extra time. Antony Ramirez stepped up to the plate and slotted a top bins goal in the 106th minute to break the deadlock. Once the St. Louis defense was broken, goals from Pedrinho and Malik Henry-Scott secured the win in second half of extra time. It marked the first time North Texas won MLS NEXT Pro’s Western Conference.
Looking to Recreate Success
North Texas SC will play in the MLS NEXT Pro Cup for the first time in club history at Toyota Stadium. North Texas SC is familiar with playoff success at Toyota Stadium having won the USL League One title in 2019 under Eric Quill. Interim head coach Michel Garbini, assistant coach Alex Aldaz and goalkeeper coach Kyle Zobeck were all key figures in that win and are the only members left from that class of ’19. This time around under the guidance of Michel, North Texas will look to replicate previous success five years later.
The Rivals
Philadelphia Union heads to Frisco after winning the Eastern Conference 4-0 against Columbus Crew 2. Marlon LeBlanc has been at the helm since 2022, and it’s the first time he leads Union II to the MLS NEXT Pro Cup. A player to watch on LeBlanc’s team is striker Markus Anderson. The striker has two goals in the playoffs that came in the previous round. Since the Eastern and Western Conferences don’t matchup in regular season play, this will be the first time North Texas SC plays such opponent.
