North Texas SC’s head coach Javier Cano heads to Austin for the first time since being appointed head coach ahead of the 2023 season. Cano joined Austin FC in 2020, where he coached the U-15 Academy team. He would later become head coach of the U-17’s. There is also a familiar face on the Austin FC II roster that helped North Texas SC win its only title in 2019. Forward David Rodríguez played for North Texas SC during the 2019-20 seasons, appearing in 23 games and playing 1,322 minutes while scoring two goals with one assist.

Austin FC II joined MLS NEXT Pro ahead of the 2023 season. The club is led by Brett Uttley who was appointed on December 13, 2022. Austin is coming off a 2-1 comeback win over Tacoma Defiance. They currently sit fourth with a 2-0-1 record and 7 points total. Wednesday’s match up will the first ever meeting between both Texan clubs and the first of two for the 2023 season. Midfielder Valentin Noël is Austin’s key creator, he leads the team in assists (1) and goals (2). The French midfielder has been pulling the strings on the attack for the Austin side.
