STORY LINES
Starting Off on the Right Foot
On Sunday March 26, North Texas SC started the season off with a gritty win over LAFC2. Forward Hope Avayevu scored the club’s first goal of the 2023 season after getting assisted by Bernard Kamungo. North Texas improved to 5-0-0 in all-time season openers with this win. The win was also the first win for head coach Javier Cano. FC Dallas Academy goalkeeper Julian Eyestone stepped up and saved a 90th minute penalty kick to earn his first professional clean sheet and recorded four saves.
Full Strength
North Texas SC was missing five players in the roster on Matchday 1. Antonio Carrera, Nolan Norris and Carl Sainté were away for international duty during the first match. Yeicar Perlaza, Pablo Torre and Theo Ferreira were the other players who did not make the first trip to Cali. With 2023 Generation Adidas Cup kicking off this weekend, having the six back will bring North Texas to a full roster as they make their way to Carson looking for back-to-back wins to start the season for the first time since 2019.
Get to Know LA Galaxy II
LA Galaxy II look to bounce back in their home opener after falling on the road to Earthquakes II 3-0 in their first MLS NEXT Pro match in club history. Although they lost, a player to keep an eye on is midfielder and captain of the club, Adam Saldaña. The Panorama City, California native led the team in passes completed (58), pass percentage (96.7%) and long balls (7) in the defeat. Galaxy II is led by former LA Galaxy player Marcelo Sarvas who was appointed on August 27, 2022, near the end of the club’s final USL campaign. The club plays its home games at Dignity Health Sports Park.
