Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Javier Cano
His thoughts on the result…
“I need to congratulate the team on the second half. The first half we were very sloppy, very slow and predictable. When you play a team that’s very structured and knows how to press, and you play predictable it’s difficult and that’s how they got their goal. At halftime, the message was to change the pace and structure. We know we needed to sub players because of the first team schedule, we have the privilege to have those players but also we’re also privileged to have these young players coming from the bench and they helped to turn the game.
On Tyshawn Rose’s performance…
“He’s one of the players we talked about in the first half. He gives us a lot of verticality and he’s good in 1v1 situations. His combinations with Hope (Avayevu) are so good, they look like brothers because they connect in every movement they do. He’s a very important piece. The other day we missed him after his red card in Colorado. Today, in the second half, he arrived at the end line and had the final product and put the ball in the box. When we have numbers there we can score and I’m very happy for him getting a hat trick of assists.”
On José Mulato’s brace…
“It’s not an easy situation for José. Last year he scored a lot of goals and deserved to be part of the first team with a contract. He’s a young player going there and maybe he’s not getting the minutes he thinks he deserves. Mentally you need to work with him. José’s very introverted and we’re working with him piece by piece. The good thing is we both speak Spanish, we had the chance to have him one day before the game and we used that to explain to him what we want and what our expectations are for him. I’m very happy for him and he’ll score more goals for sure.”
Defender Tyshawn Rose
On the comeback win…
“A major takeaway from the game is making sure that we continue to stick together like a family and fight for each other. There was some adversity after we got scored on first and we were a little down, but we regrouped and came together. Coming off a win instead of a loss, helps us prepare mentally to face San Jose.”
On his message to the fans…
“I think we’re a great team and tonight we showed it, and we’ll be even better if you guys continue to come out and support us. What happened yesterday in Allen was a tragedy and I think being a community and coming together to fight for one another is what it's all about. All of you coming out to games and showing the team support and us doing our part by helping out in the community will be great for everyone.”
Forward José Mulato
On the team's performance tonight…
“I am happy because we showed our true identity. We have good players and when we work as a group, it shows our true character. We were lacking that in these past couple of games. In the second half we wanted to turn things around and I am thankful we were able to come back from behind and get the three points.”
On a physical match up against St Louis…
“We know going into this game that they were a physical team. We learned to keep our composure because the referee would be bound to give multiple yellow cards if the team was going to keep making fouls. St Louis had players on caution already so we tried to take advantage of that by attacking them. They got a red card in the second half which helped push the momentum in our favor. That helped us get the come back tonight.”
