Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Javier Cano
On his reaction to the game…
“It’s tough when you have these moments of disconnection and make these mistakes. We punished ourselves, we played 80 minutes 3-0 down and this killed our play. You can prepare all week, scout the opponent but if you concede from these mistakes at a pro level you get punished and this is what happened. It’s hard to be happy after a result like this but it is what it is.”
If there were any positives from the game…
“To play 3-0 down for 80 minutes and not give up is hard, so I need to give credit to the players. They were trying but we need to be better in those moments. I’ll repeat the same message: We cannot have these mistakes, concede a penalty and give a goal away from a back pass. We need to think about these things. But like I said, credit to the players for not giving up. They did what they could in a moment of pressure. We must learn, move on, and try to be ready for the next game.”
Midfielder André Costa
On if there were any positives from a tough game…
“Even from the most negative situations you can take positives. We either win or we learn and we learned a lot today. We learned that we need to focus. We’re a good team and there were moments where we moved the ball around and created chances but that only can happen when we’re focused and in the game. I felt that these lapses are what ultimately cost us this game. Three mistakes, it wasn’t like they (Austin) created those chances. It’s about not letting these lapses of focus completely change the game. Once you’re 3-0 down you’re chasing. That’s hard to overcome.”
On moving on to the next game…
“I stressed in the locker room that we can’t forget about the loss but we do move on. We take it, we watch film and analyze to see what we did right and what we did wrong so we can build on it. If we put our heads down, then we’re not going to go anywhere and it’ll keep happening. We have to have the character to take ownership of our mistakes. Everybody, because it’s a team effort. From there, we can move forward.”
