FRISCO, Texas - The FC Dallas Boys Academy U13 team followed in the footsteps of the U12s and captured the Dallas Cup title Saturday morning with a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Texans at Toyota Stadium.
Forward Aiden Gallardo opened the scoring by chipping the keeper in the 8th minute after some great build-up play on the edge of the Texans’ box. Tamba Hallie II earned the assist with a clever one-touch pass with the outside of his foot to put Gallardo through on goal.
Dallas was inches away from a second goal when Xavier Gomez connected with a corner kick but his volley bounced off the inside of the post and was saved on the goal line by the Texans’ keeper.
Gallardo doubled FCD’s lead with his second goal of the day after latching onto an inch-perfect long ball that drew the Texan’s goalkeeper to edge of his box. Gallardo side-stepped two defenders and lobbed the retreating ‘keeper from just outside the box.
FC Dallas hung on to earn their second-consecutive Dallas Cup title despite the Texans scoring a scrappy goal with 8 minutes remaining. The U13 team also won the Dallas Cup last year when it was in the U12 division. This year’s U12 team also won their division with a 3-1 comeback victory Friday morning.
