Reggie Cannon Makes MLS Debut in FC Dallas' 2-2 Draw vs. New York Red Bulls

FRISCO - It was a frantic moment, as the ball scattered around the box like Ping-Pong with FC Dallas players trying desperately to hit the ball by any means into the net, and give the team and their fans their well-deserved victory.

In the middle of that mix, was recent FC Dallas Academy graduate and league debutant, Reggie Cannon who managed to get a touch on the ball with only inches away from giving the fans on Saturday night a glorious victory.

“I had a touch on it,” said Homegrown Reggie Cannon after the match. “The ball was just flinging around the box. Anyone could have scored that."

With two minutes remaining in stoppage time, and with FC Dallas trying to build on their momentum, it was Reggie Cannon, the FC Dallas Homegrown with the responsibility to both push the team up, while also securing the back line in the dying seconds.

“Today there was no hesitation [of playing Reggie],” said FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja. “We were saving him just to control the game in the back, but at the same time to give us some energy, I think he embraced that well.”

In June, Cannon made his professional debut playing in two Open Cup matches, and while he only saw three minutes of action against the New York Red Bulls, Cannon believes that if he continues to be patient and make the most of his chances, he will be rewarded moving forward.

“There are times you have to be patient. Sometimes you don't get the chance when you wanted, but when you have it, you have to take it, and give it everything you got,” Cannon said. “It may have been small time, but I made the most of it. I improved over those three minutes. Game time is game time.”

His head coach agrees.

“Reggie is another guy from our academy that is ready to go.”
