Story Lines

Rolling on the Road: FC Dallas heads to Miami after earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw at high-flying Minnesota United on Saturday, a result that extended the club's road unbeaten streak to five games. Since the start of the season, Dallas has earned nine points from five games away from home (two wins, three draws), the most in the Western Conference and tied for third-most in MLS. The next trick will be matching that road form when playing at Toyota Stadium as FCD has just one win from four homes matches to start the year. That's a problem for next month, though, as Dallas prepares for two more road games before returning to Frisco on May 10. First up is a trip to Miami this Sunday as they try to inflict the first defeat of the season on Lionel Messi and co.

Squad Depth: Head coach Eric Quill dipped into the fringes of his first team squad for the first time last weekend in Minnesota. The first-year boss made four lineup changes as he brought in Logan Farrington (in place of the injured Petar Musa), Pedrinho (in place of Lucho Acosta who came off the bench), Show Cafumana (rotating in for Patrickson Delgado) and Lalas Abubakar, who made his first start for FCD in place of Sebastien Ibeagha. Quill's confidence in his squad depth paid off as the team earned a point against second-place Minnesota United, while also providing some much-needed rest for his usual starters. Now, Quill can roll out a fresher lineup this Sunday while also having renewed confidence in the depth of his roster.

Miami: FC Dallas travels to Miami's Chase Stadium for just the second time since Inter joined the league in 2020. Miami looks a lot different than it did back then, most noticeably in the form of its former Barcelona stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The reigning MLS Supporters' Shield winners are also enjoying a strong start to 2025 and are the only remaining unbeaten side in MLS having outlasted the Columbus Crew 1-0 last weekend. Miami's focus may be split for Sunday, though. Javier Mascherano's team are about to compete in the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup, a two-legged affair with Vancouver Whitecaps taking place either side of Sunday's game vs. FC Dallas. Considering the stakes, there's a chance Mascherano sees fit to rotate his squad accordingly.
