FRISCO - FC Dallas had two players named among MLS' best in Week 8. This comes as no surprise considering the team hasn’t lost a game all season.
Defender Matt Hedges was one of the players named to MLS’ Team of the Week. Hedges had a team high 61 passes against the Philadelphia Union in week eight, as well as three tackles and two saves. FC Dallas defense earned its second straight clean sheet and third of the season. Hedges also created an opportunity for FC Dallas’ first goal in the 62nd minute when he was able to secure a penalty kick for FC Dallas after getting fouled hard in the box by Philadelphia defender Auston Trusty. Mauro Diaz sent Union goalkeeper Andre Blake the wrong direction on the ensuing penalty to give FCD a 1-0 lead.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurermade Team of the Week bench. Maurer had an amazing double save in the 58th minute of the game when Union Forward C.J. Sapong tried to beat Maurer to the goal with a rifled shot down low but was unable to get the point because of a diving save by Maurer. Seconds later without fully clearing the ball out of the box Sapong was able to hit a follow-up attempt but Maurer was able to fingertip the ball away from the goal and ensuring his second shutout of the season.
