2017: After suffering a torn Achilles tendon on 10/16, Diaz made his first appearance of the season vs. Houston on 5/28… Played his first full 90-minute game on 6/14 in the U.S. Open Cup game vs. Tulsa Roughnecks… Had first MLS start vs. Houston and assisted on Maxi Urruti’s ninth goal on 6/23… He scored his first goal of the season in the U.S. OC Round of 16 vs. Colorado Rapids and scored his first MLS goal of the season vs. NY Red Bulls on 9/2… He finished the season with two goals and eight assists… Appeared in 19 regular season games and played 1,107 minutes.
2016: Started in 24 regular season games, all five US Open Cup games, and one CONCACAF Championship League games… FCD went 14-4-6 in games he started… Was a key player in the USOC final against NE on 9/13, scored one goal and had three assists for a 4-2 win… Recorded five goals and 13 assists this season before suffering a torn Achilles tendon against Seattle in the 89th minute on Oct. 16… FCD won all five games that Diaz scored… Had seven game-winning assists.
2015: FC Dallas had a 14-5-5 record during the regular season with a +16 goal differential when Diaz started… Became the seventh player in club history to record 10 assists in a single season with his pass to David Texeira on 10/17…Played a total of 28 games, scoring eight goals… Recorded two assists during playoffs.
2014: Named Etihad Airways Player of the Month award for March after scoring two goals and adding an assist in FC Dallas’ 3-0-1 start to the season… Picked up two more assists and a goal the next four matches before suffering a knee injury against D.C. United on 4/26… Returned on 7/4, a 2-1 win against Philadelphia, but was limited to minutes off the bench… Started his first match since 4/26 against Vancouver in MLS Cup Playoffs and led Dallas to a 2-1 win in the Wild Card round by setting up Tesho Akindele’s goal in the 40th minute.
2012-2013: Joined FC Dallas in July, made his debut on 8/3 at Seattle… Scored a goal in his first start for FC Dallas at Portland on 8/17… Had a goal and an assist versus Vancouver on 9/7… Had his second goal-and-assist game against Columbus on 9/29… Totaled three goals and two assists in 423 minutes… Returned to River Plate following a loan to Unión Española, started twice for the 34-time champions of the Argentine first division during the 2013 Torneo Inicial… Appeared in 41 matches while on loan to Unión Española, 26 of which were starts, for a total 2,267 minutes of action... Scored five goals and had seven assists as a 22-year-old.
2008-2011: Made his debut for famed Argentine side River Plate as a 17-year-old on 9/21/08… The attacking midfielder scored three goals in 53 appearances for the Argentine first division team.
Began playing soccer at a very early age… Father was his biggest motivator... Father Jorge "Nono" Diaz was also a professional soccer player… Enjoys playing pool with friends and listening to cumbia music… Favorite foods are carne asada, empanadas and pizza... If he was not playing pro soccer he would be an athletic trainer for a soccer team… Favorite movie is “Man on fire.”
